We seem to be gearing up for a very merry Christmas indeed, as Rage Against the Machine beat manufactured X-factor pop act Joe McElderry to the number one spot last night.
500,000 people bought downloads of 'Killing in the name of', thrashing McElderry (and the evil Simon Cowell) by 50,000.
The result is a victory for all young people fed up with the rubbish that seems to have been spilling out of our radios and TVs ever since the invention of shows like pop idol and X-factor.
Whilst Simon Cowell described the campaign to get Rage to number one as "stupid", Zach De La Rocha said "when young people decide to take action, they can make what's seemingly impossible, possible."
Rage is donating the proceeds from the sales to homeless charity Shelter, but more importantly the number one spot gives alot of publicity to the band and anticapitalist ideas. Hopefully this will aid us turning anger against X-factor into anger against the bosses and the bankers next year. It's likely that the crisis played an important role in spurring on the campaign to beat Cowell to the top.
As REVOLUTION winds down for the Christmas holidays, we leave you with with a video we made of a Free Gaza demonstration which uses the 'killing in the name of' soundtrack.
