Demonstration called to stop cuts at Westminster Uni

25 February 2010

Trade unions and student anti cuts campaigners have called a demonstration outside the University of Westminster on Regents street at 3pm on Monday 1st. The protest will take place outside the building where the Court of Governors is meeting to discuss the cuts. The management of the university has claimed that the Court of Governors is what is driving the cuts through, although that claim has been met with scepticism by many campaigners.

Currently the plans are to cut 10% of the staffing levels, which would mean 150 lecturers and around 50 support staff. This may go up, since these cuts are allegedly separate from the governments cuts which would supposedly have to be implemented seperatly.

The campaign against the cuts has already organised severely successful initiatives, including a meeting of 160 staff and students which passed a unanimous vote of no confidence in the Vice Chancellor.

Anti cuts campaigners are inviting everyone to come to the Regents Street campus (just 2 minutes walk north of Oxford circus tube station) and show solidarity with the fight against redundancies.
